Today for Meet the Members we’re looking at Scholars Townhouse Hotel. Situated in heart of the heritage town of Drogheda, this hotel and restaurant will reopen its doors on 29 June. Scholars Townhouse Hotel was originally built in 1867 as a monastery for the Christian Brothers by renowned architects Ashlin and Pugin who are noted for designing many parliamentary buildings across Ireland and the UK. One of the teachers at the school was John Philip Holland, inventor of the submarine.
The Late Victorian building was renovated by the McGowan family in 2005 who have transformed the magnificent building into a 16-bedroom boutique hotel and award-winning restaurant.
While the hotel and restaurant will reopen on 29 June, takeaway options are currently available, including picnic boxes, Mexican food and ice cream, as well as delicious teas and coffees.
