Pride of Place 2016
Meath County Council is launching its 2016 Pride of Place Competition this week. The Pride of Place competition acts as an encouragement and reward system which assists local groups and communities in enhancing the natural beauty of their local environment. The Competition includes Categories for towns, villages, housing estates, approach roads, rural heritage, youth project, etc.
Our 2016 Pride of Place Initiative includes 3 new Categories which will appeal to our Urban and Commercial sector. It is vitally important for our Communities to have attractive and well presented commercial properties as this will not only enhance our towns and villages but will also act as an incentive for inward investment and increased footfall in the tourism sector. The 3 new Categories are Best Shop Front, Best Streetscape and Best Tourism/Hospitality.
Continuing from our revised format in 2015, Pride of Place 2016 has a number of categories at Municipal District level with the winner going forward to represent the Municipal District in an overall County competition. Other Categories such as towns and villages will only “compete” at County level.
Tourism/ Hospitality Award
We wish to invite applications for a New Tourism Award for the Pride of Place. Organisations must outline in detail a project or initiative which demonstrates how the organisation was involved in driving community spirit and how the outcome of the project served the community in a positive manner. The overall purpose of the project or initiative must be to attract either domestic or overseas visitors and the project must demonstrate how it achieved / intends to achieve this objective. Commercial /non-commercial organisations, individuals and voluntary groups are invited to enter and the award is open to all involved in tourism in County Meath.
