Drogheda reaches out to connect with global diaspora

The search is on! We’re looking for Drogheda people living all over the world.” So declared Eddie Phelan this week as a new campaign was launched to connect with local people living all over the world.

People from these parts are to be found everywhere.” stated Eddie who is President of Drogheda and District Chamber. “Some left during the recent recession. Others may have left decades ago. Others may be the children or grandchildren of Drogheda natives who left a long before that. But one thing remains true, many people still love where they came from and long to be part of it.

We want to create a network of local people living abroad. At a local level, Drogheda is such a strong community, we want ensure that Drogheda people abroad still feel part of their home town. By creating a network we can connect Drogheda diaspora to each other and also keep them up to date on life here in Drogheda” continued Mary T. Daly of Louth County Council. “The network may prove useful in connecting people and companies abroad but who may be unaware of each other. Who knows, this network may help open doors for Drogheda people to return to Ireland if they wish.”

We are hoping that local people will tell us about their friends and relations living across the world so that we can invite them to be part of the network. It’s simple – just call us at the Chamber on 041 9833554 or email me personally on President@DroghedaChamber.com. You put us in touch with them and we’ll do the rest. Or tell them about us so that they can contact us directly.”

Developing this network was the brainchild of Mary T. Daly of Louth County Council. Eddie explained “We listened to Mary’s idea and realised that it was a really worthwhile suggestion. Despite our limited resources, we saw how the Chamber could support to this campaign and help to make it a great success. We are delighted to be a part of it.

The network will be managed by Drogheda and District Chamber, supported by the Local Diaspora Engagement Programme, Louth County Council and the Louth Economic Forum. The network will get advice and support from Connect Ireland who have huge experience in building strong diaspora networks. For more information visit: www.DroghedaChamber.com

Eddie concluded “Please help us spread the word … we’re looking high and low for local people all over the world.
