Headfort Arms Hotel- Kells Type Trail Experience

A different ‘Type’ of journey....

Journey into our heritage of lettering as an art form this Autumn in Kells, the home of the book.

Celebrating ‘Kells - a canvas of a type’, the Kells TypeTrail, now in its 11th year, offers a self guided tour around Kells with 26 beautiful art installations each with a depiction or translation of this years chosen word ‘Journey’ .

Contributing artists are far reaching, from renowned Irish artists such as illustrator Matthew Griffin, designer Tara Cullen to students from third level to primary and including the work of mastermind and director Kells’s own Mark Smith.

The trail begins within the Monastic site with a throne made from willow, draped in poetry by the Bronte Collective, to an iconic giant google marker on the roof of a hardware shop on the main street to hitch hiking stone carved thumb on the main road to the capital road side to depict a teenagers first form of independent travel, the hitchhiking journey!
