An Grianan (‘the sunny place’) is of immense historical significance with its original form dating back over 200 years.    This college was the first residential adult education centre in Ireland and has its roots in the Irish Countrywomen’s Association – the oldest and largest Women’s Association in Ireland.     The seeds of An Grianan were sown in 1952 when Muriel Gahan of th ICA proposed the idea for a residential college for social and educational purposes.   Everyone is welcome – men and women, members and non members.   Many organisations find the space and atmosphere of the establishment ideal for confernces and meetings.   The extensive grounds that surround the college provide a wealth of walks, with the opportunity to stroll on the nearly sandy beaches of Baltray and Seapoint.
