Slane Historic Trail


Slane's long and fascinating history is brilliantly outlined on the Slane Historic Trail. There is a wealth of historic sites to explore in the estate village of Slane. Its past is brought to life through a series of plaques and panels placed at points of interest along the route.

The self guided route is 2.2km long and will take approximately 45-60 minutes. It profiles the following points:


Dec 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 8th, 9th, & 10th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd. Fridays 2 – 7.30pm and Sat / Sun 12 – 7.30pm. Tours running every 15 minutes.

Be transported into a magical world where children & adults alike will be taken on a tour throughout the castle to meet with a host of fairytale characters & settings before seeing the main man himself, Father Christmas!

€15.00 per Adult / €22.00 per Child plus booking fee.

Hill of Slane

A well-preserved tower is to be found among the ruins of a Franciscan Monastery, dating from 1512, itself built on site of a monastery founded by St. Erc, a follower of St. Patrick.

This detached three storey house is one of the ‘Four Sisters’ on The Square (actually an octagon) in the heart of historic Slane Village.  Built around 1768, this protected structure is being fully renovated and is open for public access by appointment. (Limited access during restoration – wee website for details)

For a real sense of war visit the Irish Military War Museum, Ireland’s largest private military collective housed in a 5,000 sq ft ‘hands on’ museum.  WW1 and WW2 trenches and vehicles, original decommissioned weapons and equipment.  This is a fantastic educational and historical resource for people of all ages and from right across the island of Ireland and beyond.  The Museum also houses one of the finest collections of WW2 Allied and Axis vehicles and all deactivated weapons ever assembled in Ireland.

Come in for a pint in our friendly, relaxed surroundings and enjoy our extensive Slane Rock Concert memorabilia. We show football, rugby and GAA matches every weekend and serve a great pint of Guinness too.
