What is the Blackfriary site?

The Blackfriary site is a Medieval Friary situated in Trim, County Meath which has been under excavation every Summer since 2010. So far the buildings and cemetery have been explored but we are now developing a new and exciting phase of the excavation ‘The Medieval Garden Restoration Project’ which is aimed at community participation and involvement.

Trim Salmon of Knowledge Festival in partnership with Race Around Ireland present a cultural experience of the mythical Salmon of Knowledge coinciding with the start of the Race Around Ireland Event.

It is a celebration of the river Boyne in all it’s glory.  The festival features drama, musical, story telling, sporting activities (for young & not so young) and novelties from Trim and the Boyne Valley region.

The Blackfriary is a medieval Dominican Friary in the historic town of Trim, and has been under excavation since 2010. Visitors
can come see the dig throughout the summer months and talk to the archaeologists about the finds.
