We are delighted to welcome back previous Artist-in-Residence Deirdre Kinahan (The Unmanageable Sisters, Moment, Bogboy) whose delightful play about friendship, family and love previewed here at Solstice in 2012 before going on to become a National sell-out hit across the country. Sean is resident in a nursing home when in storms Patricia, bringing her own chaos to challenge his quiet world. A funny, combative and charming friendship blossoms as they work out their past and contemplate their future.It stars Bryan Murray (Fair City, Bread, Irish RM) and Una Crawford (Fair City), both veterans of stage and screen in this new re-telling of Kinahan’s celebrated comedy.

Overblown is a themed group exhibition which explores varied representations and meanings of flowers by a range of Irish and international contemporary artists. The exhibition explores the temporality and aesthetics of flowers, the genre of still-life and flower painting in the history of art, and its associated cultural narratives, and works inspired by nature. The exhibition includes established and younger generation artists who explore the meaning and language of flowers in their practice in intriguing and different ways.

ELIZA’s Adventures in the Uncanny Valley explores what it is to be human, and how artificial intelligence modifies human characteristics resulting in the scrutiny of what is real and what is illusion.In the early 1960s, MIT developed artificial intelligence software called ELIZA, its title a reference to Shaw’s Pygmalion. ELIZA made certain kinds of conversations between humans and computers possible. Our ELIZA is sent into an anonymous motel, where she interacts with four characters mysteriously booked into the same room. Some of them seem to be barely alive, others too much so. They explore love, death, metaphysics, evil and evolution, probing the points in our society where boundaries may disintegrate.
