Dates:
14/09/2018 to 05/03/2019

Seven concerts over seven months featuring some of the best Irish and international artists, in the intimate setting of St Peter’s Church of Ireland.

Now in its seventh year, Drogheda Classical Music has once again lined up a season of exceptional artists. Three of this year’s concerts will be exclusive to Drogheda and not part of national tours.

One of the great clarinet and piano duos, Emma Johnson and John Lenehan open the Series in September with a programme including romantic works by Brahms and Schumann. In October, there’s a rare chance to hear three of today’s leading musicians perform a trio together when Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch make their first visit to Ireland. Much-loved Irish pianist Hugh Tinney will give a solo recital in St Peter’s Church of Ireland in November as part of a nationwide tour to mark his 60th birthday. Co. Louth mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught returns to the Series and on this occasion is joined by pianist Dearbhla Collins and clarinettist, Ulrich Pluta for Schubert’s sublime Shepherd on the Rock and some seasonal and operatic favourites in December. Opening the new year, violinists Lynda O’Connor and Mia Cooper and the Wolfgang Ensemble will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons plus Bill Whelan’s Inishlacken. While in February, the Series is teaming up with Irish National Opera to present a concert version of Orfeo ed Eurydice (premiered at Galway International Arts Festival 2018). Pianist Barry Douglas will bring the Series to a dramatic close with a performance of Mussorgsky’s portrayal of the composer walking through an exhibit of works by the late Viktor Hartmann Pictures at an Exhibition in the beautiful surrounds of Drogheda’s Municipal Highlanes Gallery.

I’m delighted that the Series’ can continue to bring such a selection of high quality Irish and international artists to the people of Drogheda and the North East. It is particularly exciting to have great performers like Hugh Tinney, Tara Erraught and Barry Douglas returning to Drogheda” Pauline Ashwood, Artistic Director, Drogheda Classical Music.
