Drogheda is firmly becoming recognisable as a go to place for high quality classical music and with plans for the 2019/20 Drogheda Classical Music series unveiled, this reputation can be upheld. The season offers a broad range of classical music concerts, many of which are exclusive to Drogheda, and include a wealth of celebrated Irish and international musicians.

All concerts take place in St Peter’s Church of Ireland and begin at 7:30pm with a pre-concert talk at 7pm.

Tickets are just €19 / €17 conc when booked in advance or €20 / €18 on the door, with a student / child ticket at €5.

From BBC Young Musician to royal weddings, young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason joins the Irish Chamber Orchestra for Saint Saëns Cello Concerto, Deirdre McKay‘s Meltwater and Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 conducted by Gabor Kali.

With a theme of Love & Death, the internationally acclaimed Navarra Quartet will perform works by Turrina, Kurtag, Puccini and Schubert’s famous string Quartet Death and the Maiden.

One of the most dynamic duos in Ireland at the present time, violinist Patrick Rafter and pianist Michael McHale present a programme of Mozart, Ravel, Debussy, Ysaÿe and Franck. This concert also features as a focal point for a new education project involving primary school students, funded by Creative Ireland.

Celebrating the Voice with Tara Erraught

31 JANUARY – 2 FEBRUARY 2020

Drogheda Classical Music celebrates The Voice in all its glorious forms. Under the guest artistic direction of international mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught, from 31 January – 2 February, Drogheda will become the centre for a weekend of seminars, interviews, masterclasses, concerts and much more all focused around the voice.

Gabriela Montero (piano)

Born in Venezuela, Gabriela Montero is one of the leading lights in piano playing today. For this one-off concert in Drogheda, she will perform familiar works by Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann before playing some of her entertaining improvisations, which are often inspired by audience requests.

THURSDAY 12 MARCH, 2020

Mozart and Beethoven’s quintets for piano and wind instruments are clever and charming and considered two of the great works from the chamber music canon. The ever-engaging Irish pianist Finghin Collins is joined by an ensemble of distinguished wind players.
