The countdown is on to the most important Irish music and cultural event of the year, and once again it's going to be at the heart of the Boyne Valley! Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann returns to Drogheda in 2019 and brings together thousands of people from across the world for a week of exciting events dedicated to all aspects of Irish music, song, dance and other cultural arts.

At the mouth of the majestic River Boyne, that most Irish of rivers, Drogheda is perfectly positioned to host this wonderful celebration of 'ceoil agus craic'. Over 500,000 visited the town and Drogheda is ready to once again welcome musicians, their families and visitors alike in August 2019.

Historic walking tours of Drogheda

Tours will be available Fleadh week from Monday to Friday at 10.30 am and 2 pm and on Saturday 17th at 2pm, beginning at the Tholsel Tourist Information Centre on West Street. No tours on Sundays.

St Laurence’s Gate is widely regarded as one of the finest of its kind in Europe. On a clear day, the top of the gate boasts views of up to four miles along the Boyne and out to sea, making it the perfect stronghold of the Anglo-Normans. Climb to the top of this fourteenth century barbican after County Louth Heritage Officer, Brendan McSherry, and Community Historian Brendan Matthews share their knowledge on this outstanding structure.

Changes from last year

Taxi Ranks – The main taxi rank will be in Dyer Street with entry via St Marys Bridge and Shop St and exit over the Haymarket Bridge . There will also be a rank in King St Car Park exiting via Magdalene Street and Sundays Gate.

Dyer Street can be accessed from Shop St coming north over St Marys Bridge for motorists wishing to use the pay parking facilities in Fitzwilliam Court, The Haymarket or the Town Centre Car Park. f

Fleadh TV Marquee – The marquee which was located on the Mall last year will this year be located in the Abbey Car Park, but Hector will again be doing live slots from Thursday to Sunday from outside the Tholsel . The Gig Rig will again be located in Bolton Square with the Fleadh Dome located on the Rathmullen Road.

Box Office - The box office will be located in the Laurence Shopping Centre and it will open on Friday August 2nd & Saturday August 3rd from 11 am to 5 pm . It will open each day from Tuesday August 6th to Sunday August 18th from 11 am to 5 pm . Tickets can also be booked online at the www.fleadhcheoil.ie website  

Traffic Restrictions

Louth County Council have published the maps of  the road closures, parking , disabled parking etc, for the various days of the Fleadh. There are four maps see

Camping and Camper Vans -  The St Fechin’s GAA Grounds at Beaulieu which were used last year as the official site will not be in use  this year and the Boyne Rugby Club on the Ballymackenny Road is also off the list but four GAA clubs are opening up their grounds to visitors. The O’Raghallaighs ground on the North Road, the Oliver Plunketts ground on the Old Slane Road on the north of the town. The St Nicholas grounds on the Rathmullen Road, near the Fleadh Dome and the Wolfe Tones grounds on the Duleek Road, on the south of the town, are both open to campers and caravans.

Extra Rail Services

Irish Rail have announced that there will be 2 extra late night services from Drogheda to Connolly Station, Dublin on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights August 16th/17th/18th . These trains depart nightly at 23.00 and 1.00

There are 11 venues hosting competitions 2 are n the Southside of the town, The Fleadh Dome on Rathmullen Road and The Holy Family Centre at Ballsgrove.

9 are noth of the river Boyne. The Barbican Centre in William Street, Scoil Aonghusa in Sunday’s Gate, St Brigid’s School in Bothar Brugha, Our Ladys College Greenhills,St Joseph’s CBS ON Termonfeckin Road, Ballymackenny College, St Oliver’s School and the Presentation Girls School, all on the Ballymackenny Road and finally Drogheda Institute of Further Education in the Tweenties.
