Loughcrew is an estate made up of 200 acres of picturesque rolling parkland complete with a stunning house and gardens, making it an exclusive venue for weddings, retreats and private events. Our heritage gardens provide the perfect family-friendly day out as there is something to suit all ages and interests, such as our infamous Fairy Trail and coffee shop.

The House and Gardens within Loughcrew Estate date back to the 17th century – making it a landscape of historical and religious significance. Here, you’ll find a medieval motte and St. Oliver Plunkett’s family church among other old buildings. You’ll also find lime and yew avenues, extensive lawns and terraces, a water garden and a magnificent herbaceous border.

You can wander through the 400 year old yew walk and stroll under the boughs of the lime avenue – which smells sensational – too. Furthermore, you can admire the symbolic statues and sculptures dotted about on the extensive lawns.

There are a number of peaceful walks within the grounds which can be taken at any pace. Additionally, information boards have been placed around the gardens to help you get the most out of your visit. Make sure you keep an eye out for fairies as you explore too! The gardens are fully wheelchair accessible and the pathways are made of gravel.

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not head up to the Neolithic cairns upon the Loughcrew Cairns afterwards? It makes for a lovely walk with stunning views.

For more on the Loughcrew Cairns have a listen to the Boyne Valley Audio Guide below.
