Tourism Ireland invited representatives of Donato Viagens – a leading Brazilian tour operator – to visit Co Meath and Ireland.
Mariana Barros and Fabio Meirelles were here on a fact-finding visit, to sample at first-hand the superb holiday experience on offer in this part of Ireland for Brazilians. During their time here, they took in some of our top visitor attractions. They plan to produce a promotional video of their time in Ireland – which will include the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre and Tankardstown House near Slane.
David Boyce, Tourism Ireland, said: “There is really no substitute for being able to come here and experience what Ireland has to offer at first-hand; our aim is that when these tour operators return home, they will be even more enthusiastic about the destination, helping to secure a greater share of their business for Co Meath and Ireland."
“While the majority of our overseas visitors come from the core markets of Great Britain, North America and Mainland Europe, it is important that we expand our focus and look outside these markets for new opportunities. And while visitor numbers from markets like Brazil are small right now, when compared to our more established tourism markets, it is important to remember that visitors from long-haul markets spend more than the average visitor and typically stay longer than visitors from closer to home.”
According to CSO figures for the first quarter of 2015, visitor numbers from Ireland’s long-haul markets have grown by +9%, when compared with the same four-month period in 2014.
