The vast expanse of parkland on offer at Oldbridge house is ideal on a summer day to enjoy a picnic. Remember to keep dogs on a leash and leave no trace.
Memories are made at the beach and even more so when you have a delicious picnic with you. Plan a trip to Bettystown, Laytown, Mornington, Gormanstown, Clogherhead or any of the other beaches along the coast of the Boyne Valley region.
There are so many beautiful Castles and heritage sites that are a perfect spot for a gastronomic afternoon. Set up the blanket at Trim Castle, Bective Abbey or the Spire of Lloyd and take in the history in your surroundings. Always remember to take your rubbish with you.
Picnic offerings in the Boyne Valley
You don’t need to worry about bringing lunch with you- the following hotels and restaurants are offering a take away picnic offering to take the hassle out of your staycation.
Based in Drogheda, Scholars Townhouse Hotel is offering a beautiful picnic box to order from their online shop.
Based in Duleek, a stone’s throw from some of the best Boyne Valley beaches, Sage and Stone provide a fabulous Afternoon Tea Caddy perfect for picnics on the beach or the park. €30 for two people sharing a delicious caddy including sandwiches, scones and sweet treats. Add a bottle of Prosecco for €15 and all you need is the blanket and the glasses. They even supply these with a deposit!
We are very excited about upcoming news from Slane Castle on their picnic offerings. They will be offering a fully packaged and ready to consume picnic experience to be enjoyed on Slane Castle’s lawn field with views of the castle and the Boyne River. Taking inspiration from local producers in the area, they are compiling a menu of picnic crowd pleasers; everything from homemade sausage rolls using Rock Farm Organic pork to homemade Elderflower cordial.
The experience will be bookable through the Slane Castle website…Keep an eye out for that one!
A beautiful picnic basket is now available from the Headfort Arms in Kells. Perfect for those of you taking the Boyne Valley drive or exploring Kells itself. It’s also quite close to the Spire of Lloyd. The picnic is €70 and includes sausage rolls, mini quiche, freshly cut finger sandwiches, sweet treats from the Headfort Bakery including: brownies, freshly baked scones (with our jam of course) and seasonal surprises... Wash this all down with their homemade lemonade... (Option to include a Headfort at Home cocktail or Prosecco also available). You can book their picnic on their online shop.
This summer, Loughcrew gardens are offering entry to the garden and a picnic hamper for £15 per person. The hamper for adults will have a small bottle of white or rose wine, home made sandwiches, crisps and a sweet treat using locally sourced suppliers.
Based in Julianstown, The Lime Kiln restaurant are offering sumptuous Picnic Hampers from The Pantry. Whether you’re planning a romantic day for 2 or a family get together, they have everything you need to take your picnic to the next level. They have fresh baked breads that go perfect with their pestos, pates and desserts plus a fantastic range of gorgeous cheese and crackers from local Irish producers. Dining al fresco has never been so delicious!
