Join Drogheda Creative Writers and Just Write Poetry Group as they return to Highlanes Gallery to mark the Summer Solstice.
Come and join them on the longest day of the year, celebrating the nourishing light of the sun, and all that it gives to the earth and its people.
Summer reminds us that there is still hope in the world, and that light can spread to the far reaches of the globe, and inspire others.
We remember also the light that shines in each and every one of us, reflected in the talent of our local poets. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Tea & Coffee is served on arrival.

Nano Reid - A Life in Paint
Brendan Matthews Walking Tour

Meeting in the Upper Gallery, where community historian Brendan Matthews shares his ever evolving insight into the life of Nano Reid. Walk through the streets of Drogheda just as she did in this relaxed, thoughtful paced trail which traces her journey from a publican's daughter to internationally recognised painter.
Along quiet streets and familiar corners, the town is revealed through story, encorouging you to experience Drogheda with the attentiveness of an artist.
The event is priced at €6 per person (plus booking fee)
Consider bringing a take-away lunch if you need fuel while taking the tour, and dress for unpredictable weather.

Boyne and Blackwater Special Area of Conservation

Study of Marsh & Alluvial Woodlands along the Boyne SAC Drogheda
Funded by the Peatlands & Natural Community Engagement Scheme 2026 and Drogheda Tidy Towns, join bee-keeper & environmentalist, Tony Conaghy, as he shares insight into this project, exploring the natural and human histories of the Boyne and Blackwater Special Area of Conservation.
Presented to coincide with Heritage Week 2026, this illustrated talk expresses Highlanes Gallery's commitment to raising awareness as part of the gallery's Climate Policy & Action Plan, as well as connecting audiences to ambitious projects both inside and outside the gallery.

8th August - 31st October - Young Creatives Art Competition
Calling all young creatives!
To continue the gallery's 20th anniversary celebrations we annouce a brand-new initiative – an art competition and exhibition for children 18 years and under. The competition celebrates imagination, originality and innovation and highlights the creative voices of children and young people of all abilities.
Developed with Highlanes Gallery’s IGNITE (12-18 yrs) and AMPLIFY (18-30 yrs) young persons’ panels, the competition focuses on themes of identity and the environment under the title - Me, my place, our world, and uniquely this competition will be adjudicated by individuals from the panels.
Highlanes 20: Young Creatives Art Competition has categories for entry from Category A: Under 6 Years, Category B: 7-10 Years, Category C: 11-14 Years and Category D: 15-18 Years, with an Additional Needs section in each of the four categories.
The competition is open to original artwork from children across the island of Ireland, no larger than A3 portrait or landscape format size in a range of media from pencil, paint, collage and mixed-media, and stop-motion/ moving image work, no longer than 20 seconds. Each entry must be delivered by hand or post, and must be accompanied by a completed Application Form attached to the rear of the artwork. The closing date for entries is Sunday 12th July at 2pm. The prize giving ceremony and exhibition opening will take place on Friday 7th August, and the exhibition will open to the public from Saturday 8th August until Saturday 31st October.
