Toradh Gallery Wildlife Encounters Through the Lens

Toradh Gallery Kells

Wildlife Encounters Through the Lens showcases the variety and beauty of some of the birds and animals that award-winning photographer Tom Ormond has encountered along his way.

Tom Ormond took up nature photography a few years ago, and since then he has had some of the most amazing experiences both observing and photographing wildlife.

Whether it's puffins on the Great Saltee Islands or mountain hares in the Cairngorms, his interest in both nature and photography has combined to allow him to capture these images and the memories associated with them.

Half of the images in this exhibition were photographed in his garden near Ratoath in county Meath and the other half were photographed further afield in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.

Artist Statement

“I bought my first camera in my late teens for use on an Inter Rail trip around Europe and have recorded travel and special events ever since. However, it was not until I received a present of a digital camera about twelve years ago and took some photography lessons with a local Camera club, that I realised the potential of digital photography when photographing wildlife, a keen interest of mine. Trying to capture those special moments with a roll of film with 24 or 36 shots was very limiting. So, armed with my new digital camera, I set out on a journey travelling the length and breadth of Ireland along with a few trips to Scotland, to give myself the best opportunities to capture those special wildlife moments, some of which are on view today.”
