Laytown Races 2025
Thursday 4 September – Laytown, Co. Meath
The only event of its kind in Ireland, Laytown Races is held directly on the beach under official Racing Rules. For one day each September, horses thunder down the strand in a flat racing event like no other. With its unique atmosphere and seaside setting, this is a must-see for racing fans and curious first-timers alike.

Siamsa Glas Festival
12–14 September – Boyne Valley & Baile Ghib, Co. Meath
This brand-new festival celebrates the recently launched Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway and the Irish language culture of Meath’s Gaeltacht area, Baile Ghib. Expect a packed programme of walks, talks, music, and family activities, all while immersing yourself in the history, nature, and traditions of the region.
Culture Night in the Boyne Valley
Friday 19 September – Various locations across Meath & Louth
Culture Night returns for its 20th edition, opening doors to venues, galleries, and performance spaces across the Boyne Valley. From concerts to exhibitions and workshops, it’s a night to experience culture and creativity up close, and best of all, everything is free.
Spire of Lloyd Guided Tours
Throughout September – Kells, Co. Meath
Step inside this historic inland lighthouse, designed in 1791 by Henry Aaron Baker for Thomas Taylour, First Earl of Bective. The Spire of Lloyd offers sweeping views and a fascinating history, linked to both the local famine and the legendary tales of Queen Medbh. Tours last 30 minutes, but places are limited, so booking is essential.
