Nestled in the heart of The Boyne Valley in Meath, lies a town that holds a treasure trove of history and culture – The Heritage town of Kells. You can now take a historic walking tour of the town every Friday in October (except the 20th) with more planned for the future.

What to expect:
Kells courthouse
The walking tour takes about an hour and starts from Kells Courthouse Cultural Tourism Hub. (Eircode: A82 RY62). From here, your guide will give you a history of the town, and the people who have created the rich history.

The places you will visit.

On the walking tour, you will get the opportunity to visit Kells Monastic site, view the famous round tower, marvel at the ancient high crosses, as well as getting a chance to visit and enter St Colmcille’s house- where it is believed, the famous book of Kells was partially written. 

How to book
Tours take place on a Friday morning (see booking link here for specific dates). The tour will begin at 11am sharp and the starting point is at Kells Courthouse Tourism and Cultural Hub (Eircode: A82 RY62).Please be there to meet with your guide at 10.50am.Cost per adults is just €5 and children are free. Paid parking is in operation in Kells and you will find on street parking around the town.
