If you’re looking to try something new, the ceramic classes with Lucy O'Gorman offer a relaxed and inspiring way to spend a few hours. Each session runs for three hours, costs €80, and is limited to just eight participants, making it an intimate and hands-on experience.

At the Toradh Gallery in Kells, Wildlife Encounters Through the Lens showcases the stunning work of award-winning photographer Tom Ormond.

Running until May 8th, the exhibition captures everything from puffins on the Saltee Islands to mountain hares in the Cairngorms, alongside wildlife photographed closer to home in County Meath. It’s a thoughtful and visually striking look at Ireland’s natural beauty and the moments that often go unnoticed.

Meanwhile in Drogheda, Raise Your Spear by Dani Gill runs throughout May at Droichead Arts Centre. This powerful public installation brings together poetry, identity and community, showcasing work developed with local students exploring themes of LGBTQ+ identity, advocacy and expression.

Music, Performance & Nightlife

May brings a strong line-up of live performances to Drogheda. GLAMORAMA! lands on May 2nd, delivering a bold and dazzling night of burlesque, cabaret and circus. Headlined by Cleopantha, it promises high-energy entertainment and a night to remember.

Peadar connolly

The Night Moves Summer Series begins on May 8th with Songs of Longing by Peadar Connolly at Droichead Arts Centre. This intimate performance blends global musical traditions, exploring themes of migration, memory and connection through song.

Later in the month, SJ McArdle launches All My Dream Companions Gone on May 29th. Set in Drogheda during the Great War, the album brings together storytelling and music in a moving live performance featuring a host of talented collaborators.

Outdoor Experiences

If you prefer something more active, the National Famine Way Remembrance Walk runs from May 16th to 24th. This meaningful journey retraces the 165km route taken by emigrants in 1847, offering participants a powerful way to connect with Ireland’s history while exploring the landscape.

Boyne Valley Viking experience is back at Slane Castle on the 16th and 17th of May. This immersive family-friendly event promises a mix of free drop in events and low cost bookable sessions designed to spark curiosity in aspiring Vikings of all ages. Almost 500 re-enactors from Ireland, the UK, Scandinavia, Poland and further afield make this a stunning spectacle and dressing in costume is encouraged. New this year is a Viking fashion show and bookable blacksmithing sessions.

For a shorter outing, guided tours of the Spire of Lloyd return this May. Climb the narrow spiral staircase of Ireland’s only inland lighthouse and take in panoramic views across the surrounding countryside, all while discovering the rich history of this unique site.
