The Viking Age is set to come alive in Annagassan this weekend as The Glyde Inn hosts a special Viking Day on Saturday 10th October, in partnership with Boyne Valley Events & Lakes Vikings.
Running from 12pm to 5pm, the event will offer visitors the chance to step back in time and discover what life was like during the Viking Age – with free entry for everyone.
The afternoon will feature a range of Viking-themed activities, including the opportunity to meet Viking warriors, explore Viking craft displays, chat with knowledgeable Viking enthusiasts, watch a Viking games display, and experience history through an immersive Viking VR Experience.
The event is particularly fitting for Annagassan, a village with a fascinating Viking heritage dating back to the 9th century.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the Vikings to The Glyde Inn,” said Conor O’Neill of The Glyde Inn.
“Annagassan has such an incredible Viking story, and we wanted to create an event that brings some of that history to life in a fun and engaging way. It’s not every day you get to walk into your local pub and find yourself surrounded by Vikings!
“The event is completely free, so we’re encouraging families, locals and visitors to come along, meet the Vikings, try something different and enjoy an afternoon in Annagassan.”
The Viking VR Experience will provide visitors with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Viking world, while the craft displays and demonstrations will offer an insight into the skills and traditions of the period.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Boyne Valley Events & Lakes Vikings, who will bring their Viking characters, displays and expertise to Annagassan for the day.
For younger visitors in particular, the event promises to be an exciting and interactive way to discover local history – moving beyond the pages of a history book and allowing them to see, experience and interact with aspects of Viking life.
With free admission, there is no need to book – visitors can simply come along to The Glyde Inn between 12pm and 5pm on Saturday 10th October.
