History and Heritage
Francis Ledwidge Museum
Discover the life and poetry of Francis Ledwidge, known as the “poet of the blackbirds,” at this museum set in his birthplace just outside Slane. Open daily, the museum also offers guided tours and special school rates.
Hill of Slane
A well-preserved tower is to be found among the ruins of a Franciscan Monastery, dating from 1512, itself built on site of a monastery founded by St. Erc, a follower of St. Patrick.
Slane Historic Trail
This 2.2km self-guided walk highlights the town’s unique history, from St Patrick’s fire to the Conyngham family legacy. Plaques and panels along the route make the story of Slane easy to follow as you explore at your own pace.
