Royal Canal Greenway

The enchanting Royal Canal Greenway is 130km of level towpath, ideal for walkers, runners and cyclists of all ages and stages. Starting in cosmopolitan Maynooth, it follows the 200 year old canal through charming Enfield and lively Mullingar to charming Cloondara in Longford, with cafés, picnic spots and attractions along the way. Rustic and industrial landscapes combine, with rolling fields, pretty waterside villages, working locks and historic landmarks. Cycle between any of the main towns and return by train to where you started.

Trim Castle River Walk & The Porchfield

This unique place is a feast for the eyes as you take the Trim Castle River Walk along the banks of the majestic Boyne, through the medieval Porchfield and enjoy the views of the rich medieval heritage that is so abundant in Trim. From the imposing structure of Trim Castle to the serene setting of St Peter and Paul’s Cathedral at Newtown, you can try to get a sense of what the Porchfield (Trim Castle River Walk)  may have looked like in the medieval period.
